Crop output, exports, water supplies and infrastructure figures vary by year and source. Check the linked sources for current statistics.

A productive plain

The Souss-Massa region is an important area for Moroccan agriculture. Farms in the wider plain grow fruit and vegetables for domestic markets and export. Tomatoes and other greenhouse crops, citrus, olives and seasonal produce are among the products associated with the region. Harvests and export volumes depend on season, weather and market conditions.

Argan and local livelihoods

The argan tree is strongly associated with southwestern Morocco and the UNESCO Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve. Argan oil and related products form part of local trade and livelihoods, including work by women’s cooperatives. Production methods, sourcing and product quality differ; check labels and sales descriptions.

Water and agriculture

Water scarcity and recurring drought are important concerns for the Souss-Massa basin. Farmers, public agencies and researchers discuss more efficient irrigation, water management and desalination. Project details change over time, so this page does not present figures as current facts.

A visitor’s perspective

At Souk El Had, visitors may see regional produce and argan-related goods, depending on the seller and season. Ask where a product comes from, how it is used and whether its ingredients or processing are documented. The market is a place to meet local commerce, not a guarantee of a specific origin or certification.
